I am thrilled to share the success of our innovative STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction) Early Discharge Pathway.
This pathway has been recognised with a prestigious national Health Service Journal Award, and I am proud to have led its development and implementation in the East Midlands region.
The Early Discharge Pathway is a game-changer for heart attack patients. Our team recognised the need for a better way to support patients after a heart attack, and we worked tirelessly to create a pathway that would allow patients like Wendy Rees to recover at home with increased support and technology, just over 24 hours after lifesaving heart surgery.
The scheme has reduced how long people need to stay in hospital following certain types of heart attacks from an average of three days to just over 24 hours.
Listen to this interview with Wendy Rees and Dr Bhavik Modi on BBC Radio:
I am honoured to have led the team that has transformed patient care after heart attacks in our region. I am now leading efforts to spread it across the country and to all types of heart attacks.
Our pathway empowers heart attack patients with the tools and resources they need to recover quickly and effectively. By providing patients with increased support and technology, we are reducing their risk of developing further coronary artery disease in the future, while helping them to return home to their home comforts and loved ones as soon as possible.
As a national expert on the care of patients after heart attacks and on managing cardiovascular risk factors such as cholesterol and high blood pressure, I am dedicated to providing the best possible care for my patients. It is incredibly rewarding to see our work recognised with a national award and even more rewarding to hear stories from patients like Wendy who have benefitted from our innovative pathway.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team for their hard work and dedication in making this pathway a success. I am proud to lead a team that is making such a positive impact on the lives of heart attack patients in our region.
If you or a loved one has experienced a heart attack, I encourage you to seek medical attention and take an active role in managing your heart health.
